Ras Pompy Granted Bail Pending Appeal After Six-Month Sentence

Popular ZimDancehall artist Ras Pompy, has been granted bail pending appeal by the High Court.

This comes after his conviction and sentencing to six months in prison in September for contravening the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act.

According to Dj Ollah 7, his appeal was handled by lawyer Dumisani Mthombeni, who was specifically engaged to lead this High Court challenge.

Bail Conditions Set

As part of the bail order, Ras Pompy is required to pay a US$300 deposit with the Clerk of Court at the Harare Magistrates Court.

He must also:

• Reside at his current address until the appeal is concluded
• Report every Friday to Matapi Police Station between 6 AM and 6 PM
• Surrender his passport to the Clerk of Court

These stringent conditions are designed to ensure his availability as proceedings continue.

Ras Pompy was convicted on 22 September 2025 by Harare Magistrate Gamuchirai Gore following a full trial that detailed the events leading to his arrest.

The court ruled that he violated regulations under the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act, resulting in the custodial sentence.
