ZRP Introduces Yellow Local Police Clearance Certificate: Here Is What You Need To Know
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has rolled out a new yellow Local Police Clearance Certificate to ease access to police clearance services for use within Zimbabwe. The move mirrors existing processes for international clearance while responding to growing local demand. The new document, officially known as ZRP Form 143, was announced on 2 February 2026 and comes with clear rules on usage, validity, and cost.
The development has already sparked questions from job seekers, companies, and institutions that routinely require police clearance for local purposes.
What The Yellow Police Clearance Certificate Is
In a formal press statement dated 2 February 2026, the police confirmed the change.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police advises members of the public that it has commenced the issuance of a Local Police Clearance Certificate, ZRP Form 143, which is identifiable by its yellow colour.”
The certificate is strictly for local use and cannot be used outside Zimbabwe.
“The Local Police Clearance Certificate is strictly for use within Zimbabwe,” the police said.
ZRP clarified that the new certificate follows the same application process as the international clearance.
“This Local Police Clearance Certificate will be issued in the same manner as the International Police Clearance Certificate, ZRP Form 143A.”
Importantly, fingerprint handling remains tightly controlled.
“No vetted fingerprints will be released to the fingerprint bearer.”
According to a specimen produced by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the local police clearance certificate is valid for one year.
Fees, Processing Times And What Has Not Changed
Despite the introduction of the yellow certificate, the police stressed that fees remain unchanged.
“The fees applicable to police clearance certificates remain unchanged.”
Applicants will continue to pay US$5.00 (approximately R95) for a normal application processed within seven days.
Urgent applications cost US$10.00 (approximately R190) and are processed within three days.
The police framed the move as part of broader reforms.
“The introduction of the Local Police Clearance Certificate forms part of the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s ongoing efforts to improve service delivery, enhance operational efficiency and respond to the needs of the public.”
Where And How To Apply
Members of the public have been advised to apply at their nearest police station.
“Members of the public are encouraged to visit their nearest police station for further guidance and clarification regarding the application process and the appropriate type of police clearance certificate to apply for.”
A sample of the yellow Local Police Clearance Certificate has been released by ZRP to help institutions and employers distinguish it from the international version.
The statement was signed by Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations at Police General Headquarters.
“Attached is a sample of the Local Police Clearance Certificate, ZRP Form 143,” the statement said.
