MP Malinganiso Accuses Malloti and Hulengende of Promoting Drugs and Substance Abuse

Member of Parliament Taurai Dexter Malinganiso has accused popular local musicians Hulengende and Malloti of using their music and social media platforms to promote drug use and explicit behaviour among young people.

Speaking in Parliament, Malinganiso said the trend is alarming, pointing out that artists with large followings have a responsibility to set positive examples for the country’s youth.

Targeting Social Media Influence

The MP emphasized that Hulengende and Malloti, alongside other influencers, are openly normalizing drug and substance abuse on social media. He warned that this content, combined with explicit language, erodes societal values and threatens the moral fabric of the nation.

“We are witnessing an alarming trend whereby certain socialites, musicians, and digital influencers, such as Hulengende and Malloti, who command significant influence over the younger generation, are openly promoting and normalizing drug and substance abuse on social media. What is even more concerning is the manner in which this content is disseminated, including the use of explicit language, which erodes societal values,” Malinganiso said.

Call for Accountability

Malinganiso urged regulators, parents, and the entertainment industry to take notice and hold artists accountable for the messages they promote.

He said measures must be taken to protect young people from content that glorifies drugs or undermines ethical standards.

Social Media Reacts

Following the MP’s condemnation of Hulengende and Malloti, many citizens expressed strong support for his stance. Netizens argued that while freedom of expression is important, it carries responsibility, and music or public behavior should respect societal morals, cultural values, and ethics.
