Downs Plans In Place For Striking Department

Bennet Mokoena could get more first team opportunities at Mamelodi Sundowns next season.

Mamelodi Sundowns appear to have plans in place for their striking department, with the club already making sure they have cover for when some of their experienced campaigners are no longer there.

In the current striking department, Sundowns have Peter Shalulile, Lebo Mothiba, Iqraam Rayners as well as Brayan Leon, but there are two youngsters the club is looking at for the future. With Shalulile and Mothiba’s futures at the club in doubt, the Tshwane giants are believed to be looking at having Bennet Mokoena and Jody Ah Shene in their first team in the not-so-distant future.

Mokoena got an opportunity in the first team earlier this season with Betway Premiership appearances against Golden Arrows and Marumo Gallants, but has been given freedom to play more in the DStv Diski Challenge without too much pressure of the first team. Mokoena is currently the top scorer in the DDC with goals and it’s understood that he will get more first team opportunities next season.

Ah Shene, meanwhile, signed for Sundowns in January and was immediately loaned out to University of Pretoria. He is yet to find the back of the net for AmaTuks, but Sundowns are keeping a close eye on him. Sundowns officials usually attend matches at Tuks Stadium, as they have a close working relationship with the Motsepe Foundation Championship club, and this has given them an opportunity to watch Ah Shene on a regular basis.
